John Hotson is the founder and communications strategist for Clearwater Communications.
Biography
John received his education at The University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario where he graduated with a degree in English literature. He has returned twice to the Ivey Business School at Western to undertake post graduate studies in Strategic Planning and Marketing.
John’s career spans over 30 years in Marketing and Communications experience with Canadian corporations.
In his role as Director of Marketing for Nortel Networks, John successfully ran a business unit for the company in Canada and the US. His responsibility included market planning, sales and operations. In addition John taught a marketing program to Nortel employees who were responsible for specific business lines around the world.
After leaving Nortel John became partner in one of Canada’s foremost communications firms where he worked extensively with organizations such as the Atomic Energy of Canada Ltd., CIBC and Ontario Hydro on brand development and financial communications.
John also has extensive experience in helping early stage companies develop their brand and marketing message for introduction to the capital markets through the IPO process.
John is currently president of Clearwater Corporate Communications, a firm that specializes in developing and designing marketing strategies and communications for Canadian corporations. His most recent work includes branding development for the Ontario Securities Commission (OSC) and the Canadian Public Accountability Board (CPAB) as well as market strategy development for financial advisors in Ontario.
John is a past board member of the Canadian Lung Association and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Toronto. His hobbies include marathon running and cross country skiing as well as maintaining a 50-acre hobby farm north of Toronto.
